How are We Unique as a Church?The follow are twelve top descriptors of Second Baptist Church that were gathered by surveying our members in January 2008.
- We practice equal partnership between women and men.
- Historically and currently, we practice open membership, open communion and open faith.
- We are a church that values children and youth.
- We are a church that encourages questions and doubts and doesn’t impose answers
- We enjoy being together and having fun as a congregation
- We celebrate the historic Baptist freedoms of local church autonomy, separation of church and state, soul liberty and freedom of biblical interpretation.
- We are a warm and engaging church, eager to welcome new people as gifts to our church.
- We are an historic American Baptist church in the St. Louis region.
- We are a church where education, spiritual growth and faith discovery are highly valued.
- We are the “Church of the Beatitudes,” known for the artistic windows in our sanctuary.
- We value a participatory, engaging and formal style of worship with high standards of excellence in preaching, music and the experience of worship.
- We are a “bridge church” helping people overcome hurt caused by extreme fundamentalism or religious superiority.
