Second Baptist Church to Premiere Original Musical

Second Baptist Church of St. Louis , MO is premiering an original musical entitled, Judson, on Sunday, October 11, in its 10:30 am worship service. This is no charge and the public is urged to attend. The church is located at 9030 Clayton Road at McKnight, ½ mile west of the St. Louis Galleria and 1 mile north of the McKnight interchange of Highway 40/I-64. Adjacent parking is available.
Judson is an original musical script written by the church’s pastor, Dr. Stephen D. Jones about Ann, Emily, Sarah and Adoniram Judson, the first overseas missionaries from America serving in Burma. The music has been selected and coordinated by the church’s musical staff, Brad and Marilyn Short.
Jones says, “What is interesting about this musical is that one tribal group in Burma , the Karen, responded more to Judson’s message than many others. With the military regime in Myamar today and its repressive acts toward the Karen, the Chin, the Kachin and other tribal groups, these people have become refugees and have found their way to St. Louis . We are thrilled at Second Baptist Church to have over 50 Karen people actively participating in our congregation. Thus, the musical celebrates the ‘full circle’ of the impact of the Judsons. They were sent as missionaries to Burma and now the Karen and others have come to America seeking peace and freedom.”
The story of the Judsons is one of heroic sacrifice, loss, gain, and courageous perseverance. It is a story worth telling and worth hearing.
