Fellowship Opportunities
We believe that fellowship is vital in the life of our congregation. We want every member to experience the support and healing that can result from sharing individual and family needs, the renewal of spirit from positive interactions with other people of faith. Fortunately, we have many opportunities to get to know each other better.
Book Group – A group meets once a month in our library to discuss a fiction or non-fiction work of their choice.
Hospitality – For years we have enjoyed church coffee hours following the Sunday worship service. We also share food at our all-church barbecues during the months of July and August. In February, one of our families holds an annual Super Bowl party. In December, we travel from house to house in a progressive dinner.
Koinonia meets two Monday evenings a month for the purpose of supporting one another in our walk with God. At each meeting a participant brings a reading to reflect on and discuss and also leads the group in whatever form of prayer he or she chooses. Participants have the opportunity to share personal concerns if they wish to.
Learning Together - We have a vital tradition of adult learning in Sunday morning classes. Typically, four elective classes are offered for adults from 9:15 – 10:15 a.m. with a break for the summer, beginning again in September.
Men’s Breakfast – The Men's Breakfast occurs the third Saturday of each month, as it has for the last 15 or so years. Its location alternates between Second Baptist and Delmar Baptist. The 10-15 attendees consist of members of Des Peres Baptist, Delmar Baptist and Second Baptist - and friends. The cooks usually begin working at 6:30am with breakfast being served at 7:30am followed by a brief discussion on various topics, sharing of news and a closing prayer.
Special Events - Last year we celebrated a talent show, a hayride, a night of food and reflection on the video “What the Bleep do we know?” and an evening of community service at the St. Louis Shakespeare Festival.
The St. Louis Prostate Cancer Connection offers information and support to men who have been diagnosed with prostate cancer and their families, is co-sponsored by Second Baptist Church and The American Cancer Society. This group incorporates faith and prayer as avenues for approaching the battle with cancer and healing the body. The St. Louis Prostate Cancer Connection meets on the 4th Monday of each month in Fellowship Hall at 7:00. For more information, contact Bill Gurley at (636) 230-8393.
